Glenrothes 1968, Single Malt Whisky

Glenrothes 1968
The Glenrothes Extraordinary Single Cask 1968 is the third single-cask bottling of The Glenrothes Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Extraordinary Cask Collection (Cask #13507). Priced at PLN 32,500, it is sold in a hand-blown lead crystal decanter and housed in a leather-bound carrying case. The whisky is from a second-fill hogshead cask filled on November 19, 1968 and yielding just 145 bottles. Its hallmarks are quality and purity in the balanced, well-mannered single malt with peerless texture, expressed by the single cask bottling. This expression is unchill-filtered and 100% natural in color. The crystal decanter mirrors the iconic shape of the Glenrothes bottle – a winner of World Whisky Award for design in 2013. Each decanter has been individually created by a master craftsman at Atlantis Crystal in Alcobaca, Portugal using the purest crystal, valued for its resonance, transparency, luminosity and weight. The unique bottle number and the distillation year ensuring authenticity are on a polished brass plaque applied to one front facet. Hand-engraved brass collar on the neck of the decanter has been supplied by Charles Stott, of Scottish Silversmiths (Edinburgh). The head of the stopper is from the wood of the cask in which the whisky has matured. The Glenrothes is known for its tasting notes label – here it is positioned around the neck of the bottle to leave the body unadulterated. It contains the bottling date and the unique number, and is hand-signed by the Malt Master, Gordon Motion.

J&G-Grant launch 60 Year Old Glenfarclas

60 YO Glenfarclas, Single Malt Whisky

J& G Grant have announced the launch of a new 60 Year Old Glenfarclas. Only 360 bottles of this desirable and rare single malt whisky will be made – a chance to buy one of the oldest bottles released by the iconic distillery.
George Grant, Glenfarclas’ launched it on April 3, 2014 at the Nth Whisky Show in Las Vegas with the words:
‘At a time when more and more distilleries are going down the no age statement route for their super premium products, we are delighted to be able to release this magnificent 60 year old Glenfarclas. My grandfather started laying down stocks for the future way back in the 50s, so it is thanks to his incredible foresight that we are able to bottle this today. I’m sure he would have been as impressed by it as I am. Matured in a first fill sherry butt, it has an incredibly dark, rich mahogany colour. It is surprisingly vibrant with lots of dried fruits, demerara sugar and spice coming through on the nose as well as the rich, oaky tannins that one would expect from a whisky of this venerable age. The sherry influence really comes through on the palate, with rich treacle, bitter coffee and espresso notes all making an appearance. The finish is the longest I have ever experienced – 20 minutes later you will still be able to taste the subtle nuances of this incredible dram.’ This exceptional bottle, a delight for whisky aficionados globally, is expected to retail for around PLN 69,000.

MUGA „PRADO ENEA” GRAN RESERVA 2005

Spanish red wine (apelation Rioja DOCa), produced by CO.03Bodegas Muga. Grapes: 80% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. Soil: Chalky-clay and alluvial.

The grapes used for making Prado Enea, are always the last ones to be brought into the winery. This late picking ensures ideal ripening. This wine is aged minimum 7 years. The wine have intense ruby-red, cherry heart and slight brick-red tinge at the edge. A base of very ripe red fruit (plums, blackcurrants) cloaked in a fairly classical bouquet which gradually opens up more subtle nuances as the wine is aired. First come the hints of fine wood (cedar, fresh acacia bark), then lots of spicy aromas (cinnamon, cloves, black peppercorns) and finally reminders of tobacco leaves and tea to round off an overall impression combining a clear classic character with very modern vitality.

MUGA BLANCO FERMENTADO EN BARRICA 2014 RIOJA DOCa Muga Blanco1

Another Spanish wine from Rioja (Rioja DOCa) produced by Bodegas Muga. Grapes: Viura 90%, Malvasía 10%. Soil: Clay/Calcareous and Alluvial.

Double grape checking, both on selection belt and on tasting the musts, means that producer excludes 50% of the harvest. Slow fermentation in new French oak and 3 months on fine lees are the secrets of this careful production process. The wine is very bright and clear. On the nose you are surprised by the fennel-honey combination with hints of green apple, pineapple and citrus fruits. A pleasant, tasty attack. A perfect triangle of lees-minerals-acidity gives it a lovely sensation of plenitude, freshness and complexity. In the retro-nasal phase the profile totally changes. The pineapple and citrus fruit come to the fore and much more faintly, you can detect very fine oaky spiciness of great quality.
